Some of you might have noticed that in the artbook “Anubis. Thin Places” there is one picture without Anubis in it. The title is “His Lodge”. It’s a small canvas, 30 x 40 cm, dated on 2013. Yes, I finished it that year, but I started to paint it way earlier. Some people ask about the story behind this inconspicuous, kept in the monochromatic tone, painting. To a lot of you it looks a bit tacky, like an old fashioned decoration and indeed, the inspiration came from an old fashioned decoration. It was an old woven tapestry that was hanging in the kitchen of my childhood’s home. A couple of deers in a landscape, a typical hunting landschaft. My parents probably thought it would be an interesting touch to our, already crazy and eclectic household. Yet, as a child I really liked it and stared at it a lot, imagining I’m entering those hunting grounds. Then my parents moved and in the new place there was no tapestry anymore. My Father died in 2001, I was 21. I was really missing him and for a while I even believed those idiots who said “time heals wounds”. Sadly, no, it doesn’t. And sometimes I miss him even more. I painted “His Lodge” imagining my Father is there, inside the old house, chilling at the fireplace, cooking “bigos”, Polish speciality and drinking “Zwierzyniec” beer from those small funny bottles. Cheers to that! My heart goes out to all of you that lost the loved ones - I’m sure they are in a better place now. Just like my Dad is. #father #death #anubis #anubismyfriend #afterlife #art
